Imua Family Services is the only organization focused on helping children with special needs, on Maui and Lanai, in the earliest years of their lives. Each year Imua serves more than 2,300 children and their families.
Founded in 1947 to help children suffering from the effects of polio, Imua family Services remains focused on children while its services evolve to meet changing community needs.
For children who are not learning expected behaviors as fast as their peers, extra care in designing early experiences can provide the stimulation that maintains and expands brain capacity. Research shows that the younger a child is when service begins, the better the outcome.
Imua helps children regardless of their families' ability to pay, with referrals coming from physicians, parents, and community agencies. These children may have low birth weight, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, expressive language delays, visual or hearing impairments, autism, or other developmental concerns. Imua works to devise therapeutic programs tailored to meet the child’s developmental needs.
Infant & Child Development Program provides comprehensive early intervention services for children with developmental delays from birth to age three. The program is offered on Maui and Lanai at no charge to families. The Infant and Child Development Program offers special instruction, speech language, occupational and physical therapy as well as family care coordination.
Early Childhood Development Program is available to children ages 3-5 who do not meet age appropriate developmental milestones and fall outside the scope of Department of Education services. The program offers speech language, occupational and physical therapy. The needs of each child are met through the provision of professional therapeutic services for the child and support for those involved in the child’s life in order to help them thrive in home, community and preschool environments, and be better prepared for kindergarten and beyond.
Imua Family Services' mission is to provide comprehensive early childhood development services to children and their families with the support and resources needed to achieve their full potential in life. View video "Building Bridges, Moving Forward, Changing Lives"
