3rd Annual Gala raises over $40,000 for Imua Family Services on February 6, 2010

Imua Family Services 3rd Annual Black Tie & Slippers Gala was a spectacular evening honoring Mike Moynahan and celebrating the work of Imua Family Services. The event was held at Roy’s Kahana Bar and Grill on February 6th. Over 160 guests attended the affair dressed in Black Tie or festive formal aloha attire. Chef Joey Macadangdang provided an elaborate multi-course gourmet meal. Mike Moynahan was recognized by Board President Brian Kakihara for his longstanding dedication to the Roy’s Restaurants Golf Classic where he has been instrumental in raising over $400,000 to support Imua Family Services in the tournaments’ 12 year history. A film depicting the important work of Imua entitled, “Building Bridges, Moving Forward, Changing Lives” was viewed, followed by a spirited live auction hosted by the Master of Ceremonies, Guy Hagi. The perfect evening culminated in an intimate show featuring the music of Grammy Award Nominee Amy Hanaiali’i. The signature event raised funds to help children with special needs, along with their families, to access important therapeutic intervention programs and services. The success of the event helps Imua Family Services sustainability and assures that services are readily available to any family or child in need.

Roy's Restaurants’ 12th Annual Golf Classic raises over $65,000 for Imua Family Services

The 12th Annual Roy’s Restaurants Golf Classic, held at the Ka'anapali Royal Golf Course, raised over $65,000 for Imua Family Services. "We pulled out all the stops to make the 12th annual golf tournament the most exciting tournament ever," said Roy Yamaguchi of Roy's Restaurants. "We are delighted to celebrate 12 years of partnering with Imua Family Services to help children and their families in our Maui community."

Other major sponsors included Insurance Associates, Southern Wine & Spirits, American Express, and VIP Foodservice with special support from The Pebble Beach Company, Ka’anapali Golf Resort, Maui Jim, Inc., Continental Airlines, Datum, and The Boeing Corporation. Hole-in-One sponsors included Maui Kava/Windward Tropicals, Inc., Maui Soda & Ice Works, Sakamoto Properties, Whalers Realty, Inc., and Advantage WebCo Hawaii.

Forty teams vied for top honors with prizes ranging from golf clubs and rounds of golf at courses throughout the state, to gift certificates for island restaurants, hotel stays, luau’s, sailing charters, and passes to the some of the island's most enjoyable activities.

The day culminated with a delicious dinner at Roy's Kahana Bar & Grill and awards presentation emceed by Guy Hagi, of KGMB 9 TV. The team of Allen Arquero, Garrick Garcia, and Nick Galindo took first place in the tournament; Roy’s Restaurants Team #3 placed second, and Alice Lee’s team placed third.

Also recognized by Jayne was the coordinating committee, Mike Moynahan, Rainer Kumbroch, Mike Webber, Jim St. John and Bill McKeon, as well as the "dozens of businesses that supported this event with donations and prizes." Jayne added that throughout its twelve year history, the tournament has raised over $420,000 to support Imua Family Services programs.

Imua Family Services provides comprehensive early childhood development services to children and their families with the support and resources needed to achieve their full potential in life.  Each year, over 2,500 community members on Maui and Lanai receive support from Imua Family Services through the Infant & Child Development Program, Early Childhood Development Program, Newborn Hearing Screening, and Camp Imua.  If you would like more information about Imua Family Services, please visit our website at www.imuafamilyservices.org or call 244-7467.

Camp ImuaCamp Imua 2010 at Camp Maluhia in the West Maui Mountains

Camp Imua brings the community and children with special needs together for a free weeklong overnight recreational camp each summer. Camp gives school-aged children with “special abilities” opportunities to try new activities and connect with others. It gives volunteers opportunities to connect with the children and give back to the community. Camp Imua also gives the children’s caregivers much needed time off. Fifty children attend and at least 150 volunteers and numerous businesses from restaurants, activity companies, and entertainers make Camp Imua a memorable week-long event!
